Generator Pilot in Georgia

Findings from our research on backup home generators

One path to successful business growth is adding to our portfolio of products and services while remaining customer centric. With that in mind, we researched backup home generators and found that:

  • Increased incidences of severe weather, that cause widespread power outages, are driving interest in generators. In fact, interest has never been higher.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic kept millions of American workers and students at home and dependent on reliable power. Now, people are showing a strong desire to be prepared for anything.
  • The global residential backup power market is expected to grow to $1.92 billion by 2024.
  • A 2021 Cogent Energy Report showed that of Georgia’s residential customers surveyed, 35% said they were interested in backup generator and would prefer to get it from their utility provider.
  • Generators are the ultimate in offering safety, security, and peace of mind.

In Q4 2021 we launched a residential Generac backup generator pilot program to AGL employees and contractors. Now, the pilot has expanded to GA marketer employees, contractors, and customers. Promotion includes email, social media, GA marketer websites, bill messaging, and on-hold messaging.

The generator pilot is creating new avenues for meeting customer demand, increasing customer engagement opportunities, positioning us as a go-to resource for energy solutions, and establishing a new revenue stream.
